Check the property’s use
Homes, shops and other uses may follow different rules. A template must fit the real arrangement and applicable law.
Write down the essentials
Identify the property, parties, term, rent, charges and deposit. Clarify handover, repairs and notices. Read rent-increase clauses alongside rental law and relevant tax choices.
Keep registration and payment records
Save the signed agreement, compliance receipts and payments. Initial registration and later formalities differ. Completing them does not alone solve defects in the contract’s terms.
An imagined example
One payment covers rent and charges. If its description does not separate them, the balance can be hard to reconstruct. A shared statement helps compare charges and payments.
Handle disputes with records
For arrears or increases, prepare the agreement, timeline, calculations and receipts. Not every requested increase is automatic. Seek advice on consequences and available remedies before withholding payments or sums.
